These smart home upgrades can include a number of different systems including thermostat controls, smart home lighting, EV charging stations, home security systems and home audio systems. Many of the upgrades to smart home systems will require the assistance of a licensed electrician.
Smart lighting can include a variety of options. Smart lighting systems are controlled through an automated system which can be controlled by replacing traditional wall switches for individual lights with smart dimmers or with scene controllers which can control groups of lights. Most of these smart lighting switches require a neutral wire, in addition to the hot and ground wires that are already present in most homes. Smart lighting can be used with 3-way or 4-way switching allowing a single light to be controlled from multiple locations. This type of switch can be installed but requires extreme care. Issues that can occur with incorrect installation of EV Chargers are that they can overheat or cause tripped breakers, and in severe cases, be a fire hazard.
